| Dr. Dominik Wodarz is a Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, UCI School of Biological Sciences.
• Dr. Wodarz uses mathematical models in order to investigate biological processes. In particular, he is currently interested in two areas of research: (1) the dynamical interactions between infectious diseases and the immune system, and (2) the somatic evolution of cells, the process of carcinogenesis, and the treatment of cancers. While these topics are biomedical in nature, the work is routed in ecological and evolutionary theory. The mathematical models are based on detailed biological information and provide a framework which can be used to generate new insights, to interpret experimental data, and to design new experiments. Dr. Wodarz's collaborates closely with a variety of experimental laboratories in order to couple mathematical with empirical work. In the context of virus and immune system dynamics, Dr. Wodarz's current work focuses on the following topics: CTL responses to HIV, HIV evolution in vivo, and the role of multiple infection of cells for the in vivo dynamics and evolution of HIV. |
